The opportunity to host an NHL Training Camp didn’t happen overnight – work began on this project in early 2009, culminating in an event that will be felt in the region for a long time to come. Bluenose League officials were strong proponents of the idea as it builds on their goal of making Atlantic Canada the home of NHL pre-season hockey. From this collaborative start, the Panthers arrived in Port Hawkesbury as a result of the support of funders such as the Province of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada. This was in addition to an outpouring of support from the business community in the Strait Region, particularly through the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce; an event like this could not be undertaken without their sponsorship and support at every turn.
