How does a student fee referendum come about?
A fee referendum can be initiated through student government (e.g. ASUC or Graduate Assembly) or by a campus unit (e.g. Recreational Sports Facility, Office of Student Life, etc). If the student government advances the referendum, it must first collect 1000 students signatures. Once the campus decides to hold a fee referendum, a student advisory committee must be established to direct voter education, develop ballot language and campaign materials, gather endorsements from student groups, etc.
