How does a tree spade work?
A tree spade is a machine, usually mounted on a truck that uses hydraulics to force triangular blades into the ground so that a plug of earth can be removed. The blades sever the soil and the roots around the tree. The tree is strapped to the machine to hold it in place for travel and then the plug is lifted from the ground. The tree is then transported by the truck to the new site where the machine is positioned near the hole and the tree is than lowered into the pre-dug hole.
