How does a wind turbine work?

0

A wind generator installed on top of a tower converts the wind’s envergy into electricity used by the home’s electrical system. In a typical installation, a home is served simultaneously by the wind turbine and the local utility. If the wind speeds are low, there will be no output from the turbine and all of the needed power is purchased from the utility. As wind speed increases, the wind turbine’s output increases and the amount of power purchased from the utility is proportionately decreased. When the turbine produces more power than the house needs, the surplus is sent back to the utility for a credit.
