How does Amnesty International work?
Amnesty representatives attempt to present our report on human rights abuses in China to the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok. Whenever human rights violations take place, Amnesty International researchers investigate and clarify the facts – quickly, independently and without bias. Amnesty then exposes the facts – makes them public – through published reports, the media and the Internet. Amnesty International members now go into action. We appeal directly to those who can change the situation and we ask the public to speak out until the violations stop. Amnesty International also works to prevent violations from ever taking place. For example, we protect human rights defenders at risk of harm, and we work to eliminate the causes of human rights violations – such as stopping the international trade of diamonds for guns. In addition, Amnesty International promotes active support for human rights through a variety of educational and public awareness programs around the world.
