Aerobic systems consist of three tanks. The trash tank allows sewage to settle and retains the solids while the effluent water flows into the aerobic treatment unit (ATU) where the introduction of oxygen accelerates the growth of micro-organisms that consume the waste in the water. Clean water rises and flows into the pump tank where the water is chlorinated and sprayed on the lawn on a timed basis.
