How does an engine run on vegetable oil?
In a vegetable oil system, the engine preheats the vegetable oil before it is introduced into the injection system. The driver begins each car trip on diesel (or biodiesel) and warms the engine to its normal operating temperature (around 180 degrees Fahrenheit) before activating the system. Activation stops the diesel from entering the engine and allows only vegetable oil into the fuel system until the driver approaches his destination, at which point he enters the “flush” or “purge” mode, reintroducing diesel to the injection system. If veggie oil is left to cool in the engine, it can clog the fuel system; the purge procedure pushes the oil back to its tank, eliminating it from the injection system and allowing the engine to start easily once it has cooled off.
