How does ancient Greek art, specifically sculpture, influence art, culture or anything else, today?
The problem is that most of the influences for today are pretty indirect once you get rid of architecture (columns) because so much of today’s stuff is abstract or derived from shapes of 100 years ago, like Rodin. What you would have to do is look at how Greek sculpture influenced 19th Century art (including Rodin) when it was dug up and displayed and then how reaction to that influence continues to bounce through our society. This is a pretty big project. The clearest influence, I think, is going to be the human form in abstract and how it is presented that reminds us of older sculptures. Possibly the desire to decorate our building with overhead art from the Greeks carving in relief along the rooflines of buildings.
