It doesn’t. It’s homophobia no matter what way you want to look at it. Same sex marriage would help, not hurt society, but the moral right doesn’t want to look at that. People are going to be together whether they like it or not, it would be in society’s best interests to legalize the unions so that couples and families have the same benefits as heterosexual couples have. That includes power of attorney for medical decisions, rights of survivorship, custody of children, medical benefits and pensions for surviving spouses. That would mean the burden of care would be taken off of society. Imagine that. And for those who worry about children (the same pro life people who believe all babies should be born no matter what the circumstances) the American Academy of Pediatrics found that children raised in same sex couple relationships grew up to be well-adjusted, tolerant, less aggressive, more nurturing toward younger children and secure in their adult relationships.
