In speaking with monks and nuns that we know and other sincere and honest people in Burma, we inquire whether they live in a village with adequate school facilities or whether their native village needs a school building. Some monks and former monks know of villages that need a school building or know of another monk or nun who accepts orphans and offers them a secular and/or monastic curriculum. After locating a potential school site, we visit the village and speak with the members of the village council and the village headsman, the teachers and headmaster (if there are any) and the local monk or nun. We verify the need by inquiring about the number of school age children, whether they no go to school or not and if not, Why? We are particularly interested in encouraging the villagers to send their daughters to school too and we take pains to inform them of our wish and inquire as to how to make that possible.
