The Crime Stoppers tip line is manned by trained police personnel who receive, process, and pass on tip information to investigating officers. Callers are given a code number, which is used in all subsequent calls, and callers do not have to identify themselves. A reward of up to $5,000 is offered to anyone providing information that leads to an arrest and indictment for a crime. Rewards may also be made for information leading to the recovery of stolen property, the seizure of illegal drugs or an arrest on an outstanding warrant. The media is a very important component of Crime Stoppers. An unsolved crime may be re-enacted and shown on television or may be publicized in a newspaper or aired on the radio. The media also brings the program to the attention of the public. more

There is always someone who has information that can help solve crime. Those are the people who can call Crime Stoppers anonymously and provide a tip that will help investigators identify those responsible. In any investigation police and other law enforcement agencies encounter individuals who will not directly provide information. The three key reasons are: • Fear of reprisal • An attitude of apathy • Reluctance to get involved. Crime Stoppers breaks through these barriers by giving people the opportunity to provide information without directly speaking to police or having to testify in court. Obviously investigators need witnesses to help prove their case in court, but most importantly they need information that allows them to zero in on a suspect or a criminal operation such as a drug trafficking network. Tips to Crime Stoppers does not give police evidence they require to arrest an individual but puts them on the right track to solve crime. Cash rewards from Crime Stoppers also ... more

Crime Stoppers utilizes a collaborative, multimedia approach to solving crime. This approach is designed to gather information about unsolved crimes through the cooperation of the local community, law enforcement and the media. Concerned Atlanta citizens are encouraged to call the anonymous Crime Stoppers Atlanta Tip-line at (404) 577-TIPS or go to the Crime Stoppers Atlanta website with information that may lead to apprehension and arrest of a person who has committed a reported crime. In addition, each week, details concerning a fugitive or unsolved crime are publicized to the local television, newspaper and radio stations. This is known as the "Crime of the Week" and can result in a reward up to $2,000 to the individual who supplied the information needed to solve the crime. When an individual has information about the crime of the week or other unsolved crimes, they simply have to pick up the telephone and call the Crime Stoppers Tip-line, or submit a tip via the Crime Stoppers ... more
