How does Cyclosporine / Generic Restasis work?
Cyclosporine inhibits cell mediated immunity system. The stimulation of T-cells produces a cascade of calcium dependent events and protein kinase activation. The calcium ions binding to calmodulin activate calcineurin, which dephosphorylates regulatory proteins. Cyclosporine enters target cells and binds to a protein called cyclophilin. This complex then binds to and inactivates calcineurin thus inhibiting antigen stimulated activation and proliferation of T-cells.
