How Does Discoverer handle OLAP type calculations?
Discoverer leverages and extends Oracle9i’s analytic capabilities to allow users to directly define analytic functions including ranking, windowing, cumulative reporting functions, moving averages, and statistical. While building a query, Discoverer users can either select analytic calculations pre-defined by the administrator or they can create their own calculations. To make the task of adding analytic calculations even easier Discoverer Plus offers standard pre-built templates for commonly used analytic calculations (rank, running total, bucketing, percent contributions, etc…) that make defining new calculations based on the analytic power of the Oracle database an easy three click process. Discoverer users can also nest these analytic calculations in other calculations like totals, averages, ranking, etc. Furthermore these analytic calculations items can be used in additional calculations, or conditions, sorted, just as any other item.
