How does DT Max handle the QST credit claim in the file of a dependent child?
As of version 6.20, if a dependent child meets all the criteria to claim the QST credit on their own behalf, DT Max makes the claim automatically. Please note that DT Max will not claim the QST credit if the dependent child is the designated child for purposes of the tax reduction for families, or if an amount respecting dependent children (schedule A) is claimed on the child’s behalf. On rare occasions however, it will be more advantageous to claim the QST credit instead, in which case the keyword Transfer-OV should be used in the dependent child’s file to disable these other claims. In addition, please note that in versions 6.20 and 6.21, DT Max incorrectly gives the QST credit to a dependent child who meets all the criteria to claim it on their own behalf but was not born before January 1st, 1984, which makes them ineligible. As a workaround, use the keyword OPTIMIZE in the dependant’s file to disable the claim. This problem will be fixed in a future version.
