The Oedipus complex is something Freud made up to cover up his discovery that a lot of his patients had problems because of sexual abuse by their parents. He presented this finding to his peers and everyone flipped out. He realized if he was going to survive professionally he had to come up with something else. So he found a way to blame the child for the problems he saw by concocting this theory that the child traumatizes himself with his own fantasies and desires. It’s bunk. 3 year olds don’t want sex with their parents.
