How does Glucovance work?
Glucovance contains Glyburide, belongs to the sulfonylurea class of drug commonly called insulin stimulant. Glyburide lowers blood glucose actually by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas, an effect caused upon functioning beta cells in the pancreatic islets. Extra pancreatic effects also may play a part in the mechanism of action of oral sulfonylurea hypoglycaemic drugs. Where as Metformin in Glucovance belongs to the biguanides class of drug commonly called antihyperglycemic agent, enhances glucose tolerance in patients with type II diabetes, lowering both basal and PPBS. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose output, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing outer body’s glucose uptake and usage of same. Proven track & convenience with many risk reduction, this combination is one of the most potent ones among uncontrolled diabetics, which has led to it receiving approval from the FDA.
