How does live censoring on tv work?

I used to work for the BBC. NOTHING is live. What they can do is say live which means it is filmed in live time, so the camera cuts are at the same point and costume changes are made while other scenes are played out. The maximum time before a show goes to broadcast is about 40-45 minutes, so any terrible problems may be cut out and the show would be stopped on transmission but they have the ability to cut it before a live feed goes out of say somebody collapsing and then possibly… well. It started in the 1960’s. British shows like the Avengers were always FILMED in real time, but not broadcast in audience real time. The mininmum time they would give is for smaller, lesser known shows and it would be the 30 second rule, but by that poit it is too late to go back and re edit, the host just has to get on with it. Basically if you phoned a guy on a “live” TV feed and he had his phone on, it wouldn’t ring at the same time you were ringing. There would be a delay between 30 seconds and 45
