How Does Metric Gauge Differ from American Wire Gauge?

0

The metric gauge scale differs from the American Wire Gauge standard in that it is 10 times the diameter of the wire diameter in millimeters. For example, a 60 gauge wire as measured by the metric standard would be 6 mm in diameter. Metric gauge measurements are also intuitively different from the American Wire Gauge standard in that as the wire diameter increases, the gauge does as well, which is the opposite of the AWG. Due to this fact, wire sold in metric gauge often use the size in millimeters instead of the metric gauge equivalent to avoid confusing the consumer.
