Paracetamol/Acetaminophen Midol contains 500 mg of paracetamol, which is also known as acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in the Tylenol products. This drug can be classified as a non-opioid analgesic. This family of pain relievers prevents the conversion of fatty acids into pain and inflammation causing prostaglandins by blocking enzymes known as cyclooxygenase (COX). While most non-opioid analgesics also deal with fever, acetaminophen focuses primarily on the central nervous system and is not as understood as the other pain relievers like ibuprofen. Tylenol theorizes that the drug relieves your pain by increasing your body’s pain tolerance. Acetaminophen limits the pain associated with your menstrual cramps. Caffeine Midol also contains 60 mg of caffeine. A two-pill dose would almost be equal to the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee. One effect of the caffeine is to help the acetaminophen and the pyrilamine maleate (the third active ingredient) to get into the
