How does MTVUs make money as a closed circuit TV network?

MTVU does not have to worry about making money. It is owned by Viacom, one of the biggest corporations in the world. As long as Viacom is willing to fund it, it will stay in existence.

As it is a closed circuit network, it is bought by the college to air on its closed circuit network. As long as more colleges are willing to pay for it, it will continue to be commercially viable. It can also survive on the more traditional streams of revenue such as ratings and advertising. The network also owns a popular website called ratemyprofessors.com.

Right now, MTVU also seems to be a monopoly as it bought out the competition. Some of the competition just failed.
