How does one develop effective listening skills ?
Satyapal Singh Effective speaking is an acquired skill, and so is good listening Good listening is an active process and a skill that must be learned to improve your listening skills. The first step in developing good listening skills is to become aware of why listening is important in your professional life and personal relationships. The second step is to practice using listening skills. Maintain eye contact with the instructor, without staring at them because eye contact keeps you focused on the job at hand and keeps you involved in the lecture. Show interest by pulling your chair closer and leaning forward. Keep your posture open by facing the speaker and leave your arms and legs uncrossed. Give verbal and nonverbal responses to what the speaker is saying. Focus on content, not delivery. Avoid emotional involvement. Try to remain objective and open-minded. Try and avoid distractions. Don’t let your mind wander or be distracted by something, which is less objective. Treat listening
