How does Red Cross respond to disasters internationally?
When disasters happen around the world, the Red Cross or Red Crescent Societies in the affected areas respond immediately through their network of trained disaster response staff and volunteers. Global support from other Societies, such as the Canadian Red Cross, to these emergency efforts is typically coordinated through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. This support can come in the form of funds, personnel and/or relief supplies as required by the country and national society over and above their existing capacity to respond. The strength of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the over 97 million staff and volunteers working in 187 countries to assist the world’s vulnerable people.
