How does squamous cell carcinoma spread?
A squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) can spread. Because SCC is relatively slow-growing, in most cases it is treated and completely cured before this happens. There is a higher possibility of a SCC spreading if it is on the lip or the ear. When a SCC does spread, it is most likely to penetrate downward, into the deeper layers of the skin first. This means that thicker SCCs have a higher risk.
