An L1 lamp contains between 1.2 milligrams and 4 milligrams of mercury. A typical mercury thermometer may contain between 0.5 and 3 grams of mercury whilst a mercury barometer may contain 100 to 600 grams of mercury which is around 25,000 to 150,000 times more than an energy saving bulb!
