How does the DOI System relate to physical identifier systems like RFID tags?

0

Electronic product codes are identifiers which are articulated through Radio-Frequency Identifier tags or other means, and are assigned to physical goods; increasingly there are proposed applications which would relate such tags to digital networks for the look-up of associated data, such as the “internet of things” envisaged in the Auto-ID project. By definition, RFID tags are assigned to individual physical instances; in specifying intellectual property with a DOI name, it is essential to be able to interoperably name not only such physical manifestations but also digital manifestations and the underlying abstractions which they express.
