How does the duties of an human resources manager differ between manufacturing and retail industry?
I can speak of being a Human Resource Manager in a retail environment. I have 130 associates give or take a handful at any given time, and my job is quite demanding in many ways. I work a 55 hour per week schedule, and my days I work vary week to week as well. I do not have a set shift and can be scheduled to start work at any time. We are only closed two days a year, which means I am working most holidays as well as many weekends. The intelligence of the average associate is not very high, and many cannot write very well. Most have a hard time navigating anything that has to due with a computer, even though all of them use computers regularly. This is something that makes the job challenging, because you are always dealing with computer issues for people, that can simply be fixed if they would just read the screen and follow the directions.
