How does the notion of a ‘reasonable portion’ apply to an artistic work?
The ‘reasonable portion’ provisions do not, strictly speaking, apply to artistic works. Rather, the portion is the whole of that work, but the limitations are that when we wish to copy from a hard-copy source (like a book) we must first ascertain whether the ‘artistic work’ can be purchased separately for a reasonable price and within a reasonable period of time.
