How does the NPS culture support broadening the stories?
Is constituency building really important among groups who do not visit the parks that often? How important is it for the NPS to embrace and share the compelling stories of all citizens? Can we be certain that seeking multiple perspectives will not compromise the integrity of the NPS mission? How can we be sure that there is an authentic need for multiple perspectives and that all of this is not an effort to be politically correct? Summary of Dialogue or Presentations: Many local constituencies do not understand Park missions and messages. Its essential for us to interact with groups with whom we usually do not spend time. We have a do it ourselves culture that prevents us from being inclusive. Important Points: We need to: explore ways to broaden our stories both within and outside the parks and bring out all the stories our parks hold. change the culture within parks to make broader connections. be bold. find ways to break out of the inertia that can come from our enabling legislatio
