How does the pharmacist do quality assurance?

0

RIVA essentially automates the manual flow for IV preparation, including the quality assurance process. The pharmacist can check any or all doses at any time. There will be a RIVA bar code added to the label that can be used to pull up the full electronic record for every dose. In addition to the input information like prescription, time received, patient data (if relevant), there are also digital images and bar codes of all the vials and diluent bags used in the preparation. The scan will also show weights at all in-process stages. So if the dose is a 10ml syringe which is made up of 8ml of diluent and 2 X 1ml additives- the pharmacist would see the weight of the empty syringe, the weight of the syringe after the 8ml of diluent is added, and then the weights after each of the 1ml additives are added. Using the specific gravity of these components, and the expected differential weight after each step, RIVA is able to demonstrate the accuracy of the dose.
