How does the PHC Benefits program work with HIPA?
HIPA covers a wide variety of issues. The PHC Benefits program conforms to all HIPA regulations; all documents used are in accordance with HIPA. It is important to know that an Advocate should not contact a physicians office on behalf of one of their members. One of the key things that HIPA regulates is patient privacy; therefore only the patient should speak with a providers office on their behalf. Providers should not speak with or give out information about patients, their insurance, medical records, benefits programs or any other matter unless they are speaking with the patient directly and the patient has signed a release which is on file in the providers office. These are part of the regulations of HIPA.
