Some photographers stay completely in the background (typically wedding photojournalists) without giving any guidance or instruction to the wedding party whatsoever. Others will give lots of instruction. They’ll tell you exactly what needs to be done and move things along with authority. Still others will suggest and lead where appropriate for the more formal shots and settle into the background for candid coverage of the rest of the event.
