Traction control is a function of the ABS system. If it senses that one wheel is slipping excessively it applies a bit of brake force to that wheel only. While it does work well if you're on a split-surface (ice/asphalt, for example) it is designed to help you get your vehicle moving in such a situation only. It will slow you down racing, and it is not a limited-slip type differential.
