How does the White Paper fit with extended schools and Every Child Matters (ECM)?
The White Paper shows what ECM means for schools. For example, schools will be able to use extended services to improve the personalised support they can offer to children; schools will get support to deal with some of the groups of children who face the greatest challenges with learning, such as Looked After Children, and there will be more opportunities for schools to work with other children’s services to tackle the problems children have that aren’t to do with education, but which interfere with their learning. And schools will be expected to take account of their local Children and Young People’s Plan in their own development work. Why are parents getting more power? Will we all be beholden to their wishes? The proposals aim to make parents well informed and to support them in responsible parenting.
