How does trail running strengthen bones?
Scientific studies have shown that uneven surfaces found on running trails create a unique stress on the muscles and joints. As an adaptive response to these stresses the body compensates by producing a denser bone structure. Similar positive adaptations have not been found in other aerobic activities. This indicates that trail running can lead to a reduction in osteoporosis.
