How does Trap-Neuter-Release compare to other methods of controlling feral cats?
Trap-neuter-release programs are a very successful method of decreasing feral cat populations. These humane programs succeed at the least cost to the public and provide the best possible life for the cats themselves. An alternative approach to controlling feral cats requires repeated extermination attempts. Not only is this approach inhumane, long-term studies have shown a “vacuum effect” is created. This vacuum is then filled by other cats and rodents who simply replace the killed animals and begin the cycle of reproduction again.
