You may be surprised that it generally takes eight years of college after high school to receive you doctor of chiropractic. You must have four years of undergraduate college with major emphasis in human sciences and the four years of graduate study from an accredited chiropractic college to receive you chiropractic degree. Until 1975 M.D.'s and D.C.'s in Ohio took the same examinations to become licensed by the state of Ohio. In 1976 the chiropractic board of examiners was established and all new graduates took the chiropractic board from that point on is the state of Ohio. Chiropractic colleges train heavily in neuromusculoskeletal conditions and treatment of these diagnoses. We were trained to recognize general medical conditions of which our background provides an advantage to diagnosis and treat musculoskeletal conditions compared to medical physicians.
