How effective is Daivobet® compared to group IV (very potent) steroids?
Daivobet® has not been compared head to head with group IV steroids. However, Daivobet® is more effective, faster acting and with a side effect profile similar to that of group III steroids. In a vasoconstriction study, Daivobet® has shown to be bioequivalent to a group III steroid in terms of steroid potency (Traulsen, 2004), and an atrophy study has shown that the atrophogenic potential is less than or equal to a group III steroid (Traulsen & Hughes-Formella, 2003). Therefore, Daivobet® is anticipated to be safer than group IV steroids in terms of local and systemic steroid effects. The clinical efficacy of Daivobet® was found to be significantly higher as compared to betamethasone dipropionate (group III steroid, potent), both as Diprosone® (Douglas et al., 2002) and as betamethasone dipropionate in Daivobet® vehicle (Kaufmann et al., 2002; Papp et al., 2003). 5) How effective is Daivobet® compared to biological therapy?
