How exactly does the “right to bear arms” defend against Government Tyranny when..?
Of course not. All your ‘right to bear arms’ achieves is a higher rate of gun crime and gun deaths… just look at the statistics: In 2006, in the US, there were 30,896 deaths from firearm injuries, according to Center for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2007 in the UK, there were 455 ‘serious or fatal’ firearms injuries, according to the Home Office. The US population is around 300m, the UK population around 60m. That makes approx 103 firearms deaths per million people in one year in the US, compared to approx 7.5 deaths OR serious injuries per million people in one year in the UK. Bearing in mind neither country has a significant threat of ‘Government Tyranny’ to guard against, who do you think has the better gun policy?
