my car won’t make it to San Antonio where i have family. I’m wondering how far inland would be considered safe( i don’t care if i’m where it’s still raining, just not the worst of it)….and i live in an older apt. and im worried about staying here, but i need get out of here but to where my car won’t break down on me. A: As far as you can get. 100 miles is definitely safe. The threat decreases exponentially the further away you get. I grew up on the coast and we considered 50 miles safe. The worst thing you can do is panic and no, your family should not come get you. 110 people died during evacuations from Rita. Avoid driving on the roads if possible (meaning those far inland), but if you are on the coast, you are the one who needs to get out and get to where you can.
