How has BYU fared in the Mountain West Conference since its inception in 1999?
In the eight-year history of the MWC the Cougars have claimed 85 conference championships, which is more than half of the 152 conference titles awarded. During the 2006-07 season, BYU earned 14 MWC titles including women’s cross country, men’s cross country, football, men’s swimming, women’s swimming, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track and field, women’s indoor track and field, women’s tennis, men’s, golf, softball, and men’s outdoor track and field. Men’s volleyball and gymnastics, which do not compete in the MWC, also achieved success. Men’s Volleyball finished second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Gymnastics, which does not compete in a conference, placed fourth at the NCAA Regionals.
