How has modern chemistry changed the hair coloring business over the last ten years?
Hair coloring technology has improved drastically in the past ten years. New products and modern chemistry has permitted us to keep hair in great condition as we color and the control and choices we now have are much greater. Personality, knowing how to “reach” a client is very important. Taking care of the client’s psyche is almost as important as doing the work we do. AC: There are a lot more men getting color today. Is the stigma of men getting color gone? There is no stigma. Many, many men now color their hair to minimize gray, cover gray or highlight the hair. Color enhances people, male or female. All people can look better with great color. AH: How do you view your life and career right now? As a New York based colorist, I have worked very hard, loved what I do, sacrificed much, and dedicated my life to elevating hair color to an art form, rather than regarding it as “service.” I am very, very critical of color and of color results.
