How has renaissance architecture influenced buildings today?
The principles of Renaissance architecture first employed by 16th c. Italian Andrea Palladio can be found in many modern buildings – harmony, symmetry, order, columns modelled after ancient Classical buildings, entry porch with columns – see more details including White House an example: at http://www.realtor.org/rmoarch.nsf/pages… However, architects today give many Renaissanced features a modern twist; e.g. like facing the columns with steel – see Charles Willard Moore’s Piazza d’Italia (1978). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmodern_… Modern architects have also adopted the Renaissance plaza – a broad communal space (adopted from Greece and Rome) so that it has now become an integral part of the design of new urban centers.
