How has the Indian confectionery market evolved since Perfetti entered India?
A. Well, to be honest, the biggest change in the confectionery industry in India over the past 10-12 years has been in terms of packaging and promotions. Todays confectionery products are far superior in terms of packaging. Even in terms of promoting and marketing the products, every company is spending much more on brand-building initiatives, which was almost negligible a decade ago. Overall, this sector itself has become more organised. Besides, with a few more international confectionery companies such as Lotte and JoyCo foraying into the Indian market, many Indian biggies such as ITC, HLL and Godrej have also shown an interest in this segment. Even other companies such as Cadburys are interested in products beyond chocolates.
