How important has exporting become to Ohio businesses now that we’re officially in a recession?
Exporting is a key component of Ohio’s economic strength and we are among the top 10 states in export performance. Exports can lessen recessionary impact by broadening the market for U.S. goods. Exporting can help a company smooth the ups and downs of its business cycle. What does your group hope to get out of the new trade mission to Australia and New Zealand? Our goal is to connect Ohio companies with potential distributors in order to establish, nurture and expand export relationships. Both countries represent exciting opportunities. Ensuring that trade rapports are properly established and maintained is key to opening these markets – further expanding the export portfolio of our state, which sent $42.4 billion in goods abroad in 2007, an increase of 11.1 percent over 2006. Why are those countries’ economies prospering? Australia’s economy is buoyed by an abundance of exportable natural resources and agricultural commodities matched with heavy demand from China and Asian markets. Th
