It is as important as with any other sport. How you eat is utilized by your body and converted into energy. That energy is going to determine how long you can train, how well you can perform, how fast you recover from training, and how fast you recover from competition to get ready for your next race. Nutrition is basically your fuel and the better you fuel your body, the better you will perform. If you just eat at McDonalds before a big race, you are going to be in trouble.
