How important was the weimar constitution (and its failings) in the rise of the Nazis?

Very. The Weimar Constitution was forced upon Germany (after WWI). It brought democracy and emancipation for women. One might think that would be good, but Germany wasn’t use to it. (Used to a monarchy under Bismarck, etc.) Because of the poverty Germany suffered after the war and intentionally flooding its currency with the Mark causing hyperinflation, many people resorted to things that went against traditional German values, values that may have been just ideals, but nevertheless exploited by conservatives to rein in democracy and liberalism. With the new democracy came fractured politics and need to compromise to get anything done. Too many parties and too many self interest groups. When the Depression hit, von Hindenburg exercised emergency powers granted under the Constitution (this was huge as the nazis were a minority party.) and appointed Hitler Chancellor. Hitler formed a coalition with conservatives in the Reichstag, which then passed the enabling act, and the rest was easy
