Who regulates the construction of SCBA cylinders? The Department of Transportation regulates – through an exemption process – the manufacturability and safety of all Breathing Air Gas cylinders. back to top Are SCI cylinders NIOSH approved? NIOSH has not historically, nor do they currently provide approvals for component SCBA parts (such as cylinders, face masks, hoses and straps). NIOSH only tests & approves full SCBA ensembles. NIOSH has approved – as part of the SCOTT, MSA and all major SCBA manufacturers’ ensembles – the same SCI cylinders (DOT # E-10945) that are being distributed to SCI customers directly and through our network of dealers. There is no “Fit”, “Form” or “Functional” difference between cylinders made by SCI bearing the SCOTT, MSA or other manufacturers’ label & part number and those being manufactured & distributed today by SCI.
