How is Bastille Day celebrated in France?

0

There is a military parade in Paris on the Champs Elysées attended by the President. Each village/town/city in France generally organises its own celebrations for Bastille Day. Some, especially towns with military establishments, might have their own parade, as my town (Versailles) does. Many have fireworks displays, which are often on the evening of the 13th July rather than on the 14th itself, although it does depend on the town and the day of the week upon which the 14th falls. Paris has fireworks at the Eiffel Tower. For many years it was the custom for the fire brigade to hold a ball (often the biggest multi-purpose room in the town would have been in the fire station), and you might still find them now but it’s less common now than it was say 30 years ago. Some towns have events on the 14th which have become local traditions, but don’t have any particular connection with the holiday, for example a picnic or a car-boot sale.
