How is it possible for participation to increase the power and influence of both manager and employee?
If you are asking this question, it is because you ‘don’t get it’. If you increase the participation of the employee, the employee will USUALLY feel more valued and as a result, try and find ways to become more productive for the corporation. (If this is not true, at some point you must think about removing the employee). Multiply this result times several people, and creative, participative employees earning a reputation for doing superior work, and eventually the credit for establishing this environment will fall to the manager, whether he/she seeks it or not. The employee increases his power with the manager (and the managers bosses who will soon recognize that the employees are indespensible to the organization) by more fully participating in the work environment.
