SaskWorks Venture Fund is a Labour–sponsored investment fund (LSIF) that can only be purchased by Saskatchewan residents. Labour-sponsored funds were created to encourage economic and business growth while being an investment for shareholders. Another difference between SaskWorks and other mutual funds is the generous 35 percent tax credit provided by the provincial and federal governments. Because SaskWorks primarily invests in privately owned businesses, certain exemptions and restrictions are applied to it and other labour-sponsored investment funds that are not applicable to regular mutual funds that invest in publicly traded companies. A full list of these exemptions is available in the SaskWorks Venture Fund Prospectus.
